Not every Brazilian enjoys the carnival celebrations; some would rather create posts on LinkedIn that share interesting details about the holiday. However, everyone enjoys their two and a half days off!
If you are considering doing business in Brazil, you should be aware of the following three aspects of Carnival:
- The official Carnival date varies from year to year. Catholic standards are applied, taking Easter into account.
- Despite not being an official holiday, banks all around the country close for
business during Carnival. This means that Swift wire transfers and TED will not work. - Carnival is a huge deal for e-commerce. CNC – Confederação Nacional do Comércio de Bens, Serviços e Turismo (CNC) statistics show that sales are expected to reach R$5.5 billion in 2024, up 17% from the previous year.
- There are a lot of fraud attempts during Carnival. According to data from ClearSale, there were 83,187 fraud attempts during Carnival last year, which generated a loss of R$100 billion.
- According to a Mercado Pago survey, paying with Pix during Carnival has been popular with Brazilians looking to celebrate the holiday.
