Sports betting is on the rise in Brazil, as revealed by the latest Datafolha survey released this Saturday (13).
The study discloses that 15% of Brazilians admit to betting or placing sports bets online, commonly known as “bets”. This trend is particularly noticeable among young people and men, with a third (30%) of Brazilians aged 16 to 24 reporting involvement in betting.
The research also highlights that betting has primarily been a male-dominated activity, with 21% of men acknowledging having placed bets, while among women, this figure is 9%.
Regarding expenditure, the monthly average among players is R$263, equivalent to 20% of the 2023 minimum wage. Three in ten bettors say they spend more than R$100 per month.
The survey, conducted on December 5, 2023, through face-to-face interviews with 2004 people in 135 municipalities, involved individuals aged 16 or over, spanning all regions of the country. The margin of error is 2%.
